I will never be a high stakes poker player. It takes a lot of guts to admit this in public, especially to admit it to a poker online player public that learned to play on the stories of big pots and big online poker celebrities. Ironically, I will never be a high stakes poker players because I actually lack guts at the poker table. Sure, I have enough to show me through a casual game with friends, but I do not have enough to carry me through a high stakes final table with more money on the felt than I make in a year. My instinct would be to walk away with a modest stack. This does not make good television.

To be a high stakes player you need a strong stomach that can stand the inherent ups and downs of the game. You need to be able to ride the crests of excitement without a single emotion showing on your face. Perhaps some people can do this. I am not one of them. If what I see at my local casino is any indication, there are actually quite a lot of use weak stomached poker players out there. We will never see a final showdown. But at the end of the day, me, and my sensitive stomach, are okay with our run of the mill predictable games.
